     My name is Chukwuka Okwu Jeffery. I am originally from Nigeria but moved to the US in 2016. I am currently a senior at NJCU majoring in criminal justice. I aspire to further my education after graduating and go to law school to become a lawyer. I've always believed lawyers were very important people in the society and I want to be able to help other people in ways that lawyers do. When I'm not working or going to classes, i spend most of my free time watching movies, TV shows etc. I'm also a big fan of sports particularly basketball, soccer and football. Back in Nigeria I played high school soccer and also when i came here I played high school basketball. I recently started getting into football about 2 years ago. At first when i came here I didn't fully understand the sport, but as time went on, I kept watching it gradually and I can say now that i understand it better than when I first started watching it. I also play games on my ps5 when I'm free. I like going out with friends, either to the movies, or just fun places in general. As much as I like hanging out with my friends and family, sometimes I like to be left alone and unbothered. Speaking of family, I am the 3rd of 4 children, I have one brother and two sisters. 

    Back home in Nigeria, our universal language was English, mainly British English. I've never really had a problem with spelling or reading or writing or understanding English. As far as i can remember, I began to feel literate at the age of 5 or 6 (I may be wrong). At kindergarten or as we called it "nursery school", we used to trace letters and practiced colorings. I for one have never been good at coloring, I always colored outside the lines and that frustrated me. My role models were my parents, as they both were educated, my dad is a doctor and my mum an accountant. They gave us everything we needed to have a good and quality education. I think literacy is very important in the world today, one cannot simply afford to be an illiterate.

       In the other wes moore, wes and his friends escape the difficult times by playing basketball. It kept them busy and acted as a distraction from the outside world. He was torn between his neighborhood friends and school friends so playing basketball was a way to escape that. When I'm in difficult situations i keep myself distracted by playing basketball also, or soccer. Growing up, I've always been a fan of playing sports, especially those two I mentioned. Playing a sport or doing a physical activity helps you to focus on one thing and keeps the mind clear of all other distractions.      I have other ways of trying to escape difficult times, listening to music also helps me keep focused and keeps the outside noise from getting to me. The author gives credit to mentors that forced him to get serious about his behavior. Do you have a mentor? How have they helped you this far?

 Personally I've had a few mentors throughout the different stages of my life who have helped me be where I am today. They've inspired me to be better and live a more productive life. My parents are my first mentors, they've obviously been with me my whole life and I wouldn't be where I am now without them. They've taught me a lot and have kept me going and I've learned a lot from them. I've also learned a lot from other family members like aunts, uncles, older cousins etc.  After reading the book, I still believe that we are products of our environment but that also contributes to the expectations we have. Our environment doesn't just include our physical environment, it also includes the people we hang out with, the people we call our friends. If someone hangs out with a bad crowd, chances are he or she will end up like that but if someone changes their environment and involves themselves with productive people, he will also be productive.

Is Fast food the new tobacco ? should the obesity issue be government regulated or remain personal responsibility

    When thinking about the question "is fast food the new tobacco?", it gets harder and harder for me to say no to that question. To some extent, fast food has indeed become the new tobacco. It is now advertised everywhere we go, at home on out TVs, we see ads on billboards, ads on youtube etc, just the same way tobacco is advertised. These two products are also similar to each other as both have long term health hazards. Cigarettes and nicotine can cause cancer and consuming a lot of fast food results in health hazards like obesity, heart disease etc. When cigarettes first started to be advertised, they had no warnings about how it caused cancer or other health hazards, it was after the damage had been done that these companies decided to put warning labels.      Many fast food companies today advertise their products without telling us the health hazards in them, of course they don't want to lose their customers.
