ARE WE PRODUCTS OF OUR ENVIRONMENT OR PRODUCTS OF OUR EXPECTATIONS ?

I do believe that we are products of our environment but not entirely, expectations play a role too in making us who we are. Our environment has a major role in what we expect for ourselves in life. So to answer the question, we are a product of our environment to some degree, but that environment plays a role in what we expect for ourselves. For instance, if a plant is placed where there's enough sunlight it will grow to be a strong and healthy plant, if not, then it will die. One cannot expect a plant who doesn't receive adequate care and sunlight to outlive a plant who does. Another example of how life is a product of our environment is in professional sports, the NBA to be specific. An organization is responsible for signing players to play for their team. While some organizations do a good job at it, others don't, which is why some teams are more superior to others. If a team is good, there should be championship expectations for them. There are no championship expectations for bad or average teams. For a bad team to become a good team they have to get good players, in this case, change the environment, because the previous one wasn't going to be productive. The same thing is applicable in life, if someone comes from a poor, rough neighborhood where there are gangs, and things like that, he needs to change his environment in order to get away from that. Basically our expectations depends on our environment.

In the book we read that wes moore had a huge shift in his life when his mother took him to military school. He was able to make good decisions and flourish which made his life better. Changing your environment also has to do with changing the people around you and surrounding yourself with people that will take you to higher places. I come from a poor country in Africa and not too many opportunities presents itself without doing something illegal. I and my family were able to leave and come to a country where there are unlimited opportunities.
